Group objectives & activities

The risk and reliability research area is a sub-area of the GIEyG group, which is part of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Los Andes University, Bogotá, Colombia.

Most activities of this group focus on modeling the stochastic performance of structural and mechanical systems. Current research projects include structural reliability and risk analysis; reliability-based design optimization; assessment, prediction, and optimal management of life-cycle performance of structural systems; and modeling of infrastructure networks. In addition, the group interacts and participates on risk-related projects with other research groups in a wide variety of areas and disciplines (eg., social sciences, economics, biology, neuroscience, and basic sciences). Some examples of projects that result from this collaboration are: systems modeling in environmental engineering, development of assessment methods for air pollution; construction management and risk assessment; transportation and disaster management and prevention.
